Stephen Colbert: America Again
While at Doyle Partners, I worked on the typographic title page designs for Stephen Colbert’s book ‘America Again’.
In a unique twist for this piece we had shot the accompanying title page photography as anaglyph 3D images, requiring the reader to wear the blue and red glasses that accompanied it. To complement this photography technique, I set out to comprehend how another type of 3D line drawing (phantograms) work.
After a series of migraines from 8 hours a day wearing 3D glasses, I cracked the code and was able to draw my accompanying title page designs in 3D along side the photos. This technique gave the impression that you were looking down at lettering on a 45 degree angle and it would stand off the page.
The technique was scrapped before publication, but it was one hell of a painful/puzzling project… though weirdly enough, still one of my favorite experiences.
